Accessibility Polish and Tonight's AccessiWeather Build

April 30, 2026

Today was a site polish day for orinks.net, with the focus landing squarely on accessibility fixes. I ran the site through automated WCAG checks, fixed small touch-target issues in the header and footer navigation, tightened up ARIA references in the home status panel, and made the Spotify playlist links clearer for screen reader users.

The playlists page also got a small cleanup pass. The short-window charts section now gets straight to the point, and each Spotify link has a more specific accessible name so repeated "Open on Spotify" links make sense out of context.

Those changes are deliberately modest, but they matter: navigation links should be comfortable to hit, page structure should stay predictable, and embedded third-party content should not make the rest of the page harder to use.

For tonight's AccessiWeather build, I compared the current dev branch against last night's nightly tag, nightly-20260430, using the UTC-based nightly naming. The new commits since that tag hide empty optional Forecaster Notes tabs when the National Weather Service has no HWO or SPS text for the office, while keeping AFD as the primary notes surface and leaving retry paths available when fetches fail.

The other post-tag change updates the Pirate Weather integration to request v2 forecast data. That means AccessiWeather can preserve the newer precipitation type values and normalize ice or mixed precipitation into clearer plain-English conditions across current, hourly, and daily forecast data.

As always, the goal is not just to ship more code. It is to make the tools feel calmer, clearer, and more dependable for the people who actually use them.
